Premium Cataract Surgery Q & A
Why is a glaucoma specialist the best choice for cataract surgery?
If you have glaucoma — or are at risk — your surgeon's lens choice matters. Certain premium lenses are not appropriate for patients with advanced glaucoma or significant visual field loss. Our surgeons evaluate your glaucoma status, visual field, and contrast sensitivity before recommending a lens. A fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist has the deepest understanding of the eye's drainage anatomy, which means greater precision and safety in every cataract procedure.
What premium lens options are available?
We offer the most advanced intraocular lenses available. The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is the only lens customizable after surgery using UV light. Extended depth of focus lenses — including the Vivity, Symfony, and PureSee — provide a continuous range of vision with minimal visual disturbance. The PanOptix trifocal IOL provides clear vision at near, intermediate, and far distances. Toric IOLs correct astigmatism at the time of surgery. Dr. Krivoy and Dr. Park will determine which lens best fits your eyes, lifestyle, and visual goals.
Can glaucoma and cataract surgery be done at the same time?
Yes. We frequently perform minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) at the same time as cataract surgery, lowering eye pressure and reducing dependence on drops through a single procedure with no additional recovery time. We perform the full range of MIGS procedures, including the iStent Inject W, Hydrus Microstent, Kahook Dual Blade goniotomy, OMNI canaloplasty, and endocyclophotocoagulation (ECP).
What is femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery?
Femtosecond laser technology performs key steps of surgery with computer-guided precision — corneal incisions, lens capsule opening, and cataract softening. This improves accuracy in premium lens placement, especially for toric and multifocal IOLs.
